Mad Mab's Mutliverse Gallery is a focal point in the multiverse, there Joshua "Mad Mab" Winter reviews the good and the bad. From Anime to Video Games, Mad Mab will defend our dimension against the evils that the multiverse has to offer...such as the The Room or Waterworld, neither of which he has plans to review...EVER!
Well I had told some people that I'd be posting my first review vid saturday June 19th. Sorry to say that due to a slight hiccup in my computer's operational status, I am was unable to finish to video and editing portions of the vid. I'll try to have the vid up by this saturday, which would be june 26th.
I got done watching the next portion of Linkara's "History of the Power Rangers", this one dealt with "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy". During the video, Linkara brought up a rather interesting point and idea behind sparks and the power rangers. For those out there whom used follow the series, when the rangers where struck sometimes, sparks would shoot out from where they were struck. Often times this would be followed suit by weapons and zords as well, I for one didn't even think twice about how or why.
So going on the idea the Linkara mentioned, I was able to fathom two distinct possible answers as to why. But before I get to that, I'll need to set the stage. First is the Morphing Grid, not many people even back then knew what it was or how it worked. In fact in some cases with power rangers over the past few years you still wonder, since in the original series Zordon stated he maintained it. Which only raised tons of question for those who found out that Zordon died at the end of the Space season, but there seems to be new a power ranger series every 20secs...
Think of the Morphing Grid like a power grid that carries electrical energy, much like you're local power company has, only this one seems to span the universe. Every time a ranger user a morpher of any kind, they are really accessing the energy carried by the Morphing Grid itself. That would make the morphers in their various forms, the power transformers. These transformers would then tap into the power of the grid, thus giving the rangers the power to morph into their ranger forms and have access to the enhancing effects that the suits have on their bodies.
When ever a ranger is struck, sparks shoot out from where they were struck. And often times a ranger will be struck so much or so hard, that he or she will demorph. This has to do with the energy the morphers draw from the grid in someway. Now here is where I get to the possibilities for this, hard light and stored atoms.
It is assumed that all the power that the rangers have when in their ranger forms and the energy allowing to have the suits are maintained by a combination of the morphing grid and the morphers. Working in concert, the allow a person to tap into the power of the rangers without it overloading or overwhelming the user. If the energy that keeps them power rangers and gives them their powers as rangers is one an the same, than Hard Light constructs would be the more plausible.
Hard Light constructs would basically have false substance, that's where the energy creating a hologram (for example) is so great, that it gives the false impression that it's made up of solid matter. This would most likely due to the electromagnetic barrier, the reason matter can pass through other matter is the electrons the orbit atoms. The electromagnetic force in physics says this is what keeps gravity from pulling us to the core of the earth. Electrons being of the same polarity, repel other electrons.
Much like the Doctor on Star Trek Voyager, the hard light would also give his generated clothes the same false substance as well as his combadge, thus giving them the ability to feel and act as if they were made of actual matter.
So being made of energy, if the suits had been struck hard enough, it could disrupt the morphing grid causing a surge in power, thus the sparks. If the morphing grid's energy is the same as the energy that makes up the hard light that makes up the suits, then a drain on the energy powering the suits might cause the morpher to draw on more power from the grid. Or it could be to strain on maintaining the hard light suits from stronger attacks, might draw more power from the grid to compensate for it and also cause a surge in power, causing the sparks.
Now if it's the stored atoms theory, then the morphing grid takes on a bit of a different idea behind it. That approach would make the power behind the morphing process and the reason for the suits existence in the first place, two completely different things. The creation and substance of the suits would be made up of atoms stored by the morphing grid. This would make the individual morphers computers that have a specific atom structure programmed into them.
The energy behind the maintaining of the atoms in the specific order they are, might be difficult to maintain when struck. Which might also account for power surges if the attack is strong enough, the morphing grid would send more power to the morpher to maintain the atoms of the suits in the order they are suppose to be.
In either case, any sizable disruption to the suits' energy via the morphing grid would and could cause power surges. I tried my best to explain the nature of the sparks and the power rangers from a scientific standpoint.
Didn't think I'd be making something again this quickly, but the bs that is blizzard forced me to otherwise.
Blizzard's remote AH (auction house) for the world of warcraft is at first glance, a good idea. What that means is that you can access AH for a particular server in which a character is on, buy and/or sell stuff and more. But...that's only if you pay 2.99 per 30 days. wait what?
That's right, blizzard is going to make you pay 2.99 every 30 days to access the auction house from your web browser, wtf?! Now hold on, maybe I'm being a bit too hasty with this bout of nerd rage. Now I didn't mention this at first, but there are actually 2 remote AH that blizzard offers, a free and the paid one.
The free one allows you to browse the AH, look how up how much currency a character has and even look up what items in your bags is sellable on the AH. There are a few more standard things that come with the free version, but when you look at the paid version it makes you wonder what blizzard was smoking exactly. The main things you'd use the AH for is what they paid version offers.
You can buy/sell items, track auctions you have, items you bidding on, buyout auctions, collect the gold from auctions you have where someone bought an item you put on the AH. When you look at the paid version, its a rather awesome feature. A friend of mine did bring up some good points about it, the web AH is for those people who are on computers that don't have wow or for those people on the go via things like iPhone or the droid.
All in all it's a rather handy feature if you're at work and you have a web capable phone, or in between classes for those in school. The fact of how mobile the web remote AH can be, is 12 kinds of awesome. But let's remember, this is the paid version. When you compare the paid to the free version, it makes you wonder why there is a free version. The paid remote AH as all the same features that the free version has plus more.
The fact the paid version is the only version that actually acts like the AH system in the game, I can't help but question Blizzard's logic as to whey there is a free version at all. Remember the paid version is the only one of the two that is just like being ingame, so there really is no point in having the free version unless you just want to look at what's in the AH and not buy it. I will admit that I do not see the point blizzard is trying to make with the free version, it seems to me that it servers as a reason to pay the 2.99 a month.
Granted, I probably would shell out the money for the remote AH if I had the phone for it. It doesn't matter if it's the paid one or not, but just knowing what is in your bags, your mailbox and how much currency a character has is awesome. The only thing over I cannot get over, is the free version. But just because I don't see a reason for the free version doesn't mean there isn't one. And I'm sure there are people out there who see this more as a rant, I wouldn't blame them. After reading it over myself, it does have that nerdrage rant feel to it. All I have to say is that this was my 2 cents on the subject, if I wasn't happy with it being a rant...I wouldn't have posted it.
When you think of lasers, what comes to mind? Star Trek or Star Wars perhaps? Well when you get right down to it, a laser is a beam of energy generated by some kind of technology. So movies and TV shows have them every now and then, what's wrong with that? Actually, there is plenty wrong with that. As is the case with Star Wars and Star Trek, these two thing often show lasers of some kind and they get the whole concept really wrong.
Laser cannons, laser guns and even laser swords, we've pretty much seen it all and more in these two outer space pieces of rather awesome fiction. Between the two, I think almost ever possible kind of laser technology has been shown to audiences. I know it's not pleasing, but when they fire lasers of any kind in space, there is sound! Like wtf is up with that? I know the physics behind laser fire with sound in outer space is absolute fiction, so why do they do it then?
Well if you ever watched either a Star Wars or Star Trek space battle muted, it's rather boring. It's not aesthetically pleasing as it were, the only reason they have sound effects is because laser fights in the vacuum of space can be boring sometimes with out the sound effect of the lasers themselves. Sure the physics behind laser fire creating sound in a total vacuum is not possible, but often times it's either totally awesome sounding, or it can be funny at times.
When you think lasers, you think one of those two. Why? Even though they get some things rather wrong with the physics, it's because their laser fire sound effects are unique and iconic. Star Wars and Star Trek lasers are kickass because their high quality and well created sound effects. The visual effects behind them are rather cool, when it comes to lasers...Star Wars and Star Trek have gotten them almost down to a science.
What about other scifi stuff that have lasers fire in space? I have to say generally, they don't get the right mix between audio and visual aspects of the lasers themselves. Which is rather crucial, the right sight and sound for any effects can make something rather awesome or just down right goofy and/or utterly fake. The kind of utterly fake that looks stupid or down right ugly.
The audio and visual effects for lasers in space really sell them, if the film/TV show creators don't get them down right, it can ruin the atmosphere of what is being shown to you.
Now that the lasers in space topic is covered, it's time to move on to laser weapons in an actual atmosphere. We'll start with the Star Trek phaser and Star Wars lazer guns and how they are shown. In Star Wars when someone is show with a laser gun, if they have no armor it leaves a sizable entry wound...but the wound is bleeding. Come to think of it, the same thing happens rather often with light sabers. The intense bust of directed energy coming from the guns should fry any nerves it comes in contact with. Even the light saber made of what looks like hard light that is incredibly hot, still allows for pain and bleeding.
A light saber is a beam of intensely hot light, that alone should seer the wound closed. At least when star trek laser fire in regards to people happen, yes there are scorch marks...but there is no bleeding. Often times you can seen burnt blood where the scorch marks are, so that's one thing Star Trek has over Star Wars right there. And it's not just Star Wars, there are tons of movies and TV shows that have people bleeding or in pain after being hit by laser fire.
Some people like to think thats how it is for the Stargate shows, I don't agree with them. Most of the time when person is hit by an energy weapon, there is blood mind you, but most energy attacks in the Stargate shows seems electrical almost. If a sizable charge of electricity was sent through your body, eventually it'd blow right out of you leaving a hole somewhere. This is scientifically possible, so it's not hard to assume that energy weapons that deliver an electrical charge of kind wouldn't be able to do the same.
That reminds me, I haven't mentioned the power requirements yet. The sheer amount of energy needed to generate a beam of energy as a weapon is astounding. I can totally see how the ships in scifi can have them, but the hand laser weapons baffle me. Let's assume that we could store the proper energy required to make a laser, how do you store enough to make it intense enough to harm something?
We can't even store the amount of electrical energy in a bolt of lightning with out the storage unit blowing up and I have yet to see a TV show or movie where we have the technology to make it possible to store the bolt either. Until that happens, I can't even begin to accept that we can store a huge amount of energy to produce a laser beam capable of harming something in a container no bigger than most real life guns and/or handheld electronics.
Even though it seems rather unlikely that mankind can store that much energy in such small housings, they are still more likely than light sabers. Lets assume that the light sabers were and are actually possible in regards to what they do. How is the beam so short? If we can assume that the jedi figured out how to generate the power needed to make the beam, then there should be an answer as to how and why the beam is short/long as it is.
I have yet to find a reasonable answer for it... I mean if you can only make it that long, shouldn't there be a noticeable reason? I'm pretty sure that it has been explained somewhere and has made it on to some Website. To be honest I haven't even tried looking for some time, that fact alone might be why I never have found out the reason if any for why the light sabers are as short or long as they are.
Just to let you know, these are my opinions on lasers in scifi stuff. And I will grant you that this sounded more like a rant than an actual review, but have to remember that there is a lot of real science behind lasers. So it can make some people like yours truly a little miffed when there are TV shows and/or movies who either get just right or utterly wrong, even if it's just the effects regarding the lasers themselves.
Greetings and Salutations internet surfers! this is MurlocAggroB here with a special announcement....
I'm expanding my repitoire, I'm going to make my own website to host my videos from now on. After recent inspiration, I've decided to expand my talents into reviews. Anime, video games, movies and more, I am hopeful that despite my having challenged the NC sometime last year....that I will be welcomed with open arms to team TGWTG. ^_^;
I will have other vids as well, stuff like my WoW music videos on youtube. Among other things, I'll have reviews about stuff like my special mp3 player. One I'm sure even Linkara would love to get his hands on, when i get the chance I'll talk about it in full detail.
Until I get my own site up and running, this blogspot thing will have to to
