Critic Critique: Angry Joe #2

 Well hats off to Angry Joe for earning the first Critic Critique #2, which is another look at a particular reviewer or reviewers' work. So, what is that earned him yet another look on this review blog? Why his Green Lantern movie game review...OF COURSE!!!!!! Had to have a byson meme in here somewhere ya know? Anyways, lets get started shall we?

  Before I saw the review, I had seen pics of Angry Joe as a red lantern first. Needless to say after seeing the review and other reviews he has done, I'd say he'd give Atrocitus a run for his money. Not only did our newfound red lantern Joe do a good review, but the special effects for the review were great. I'd definitely recommend watching the review, especially again if you've already seen it. 

  The video has a definite re-watch value and it only further shows reasons why movie license games are just horrible. I give Angry Joe's review on the Green Lantern movie game a 12 kinds of awesome review, my highest stamp of sheer awesomeness I place on anything. For those wondering...I guess it'd be like an AAA+++ rating.

  It has overall great video and audio quality, as well as very informative on what is and is not good about the game itself. Just watching the review got me seeing a Red Lantern Haze of Rage too, it offends me greatly as a Green Lantern fan. Just like Parallax in the movie, this game disappoints me as a GL fan. I don't want to spoil too much of the review if you haven't seen it yet. so here is a link for the video and have fun watching:

Comic Inque: DC Reboot *cough cough*

Linkara has spurred me into action about the DC reboot, long story short. I agree with him, and I sympathize with his connection to the teen titans. Have I read the titans story that really got him into comics? no..... Too be perfectly honest, I didn't read any teen titans stuff in general until Blackest Night. And yeah, totally confused as to what 90% percent of what people were talking about. It never dawned on me during the 3 times I've seen Linkara's countdown review vids, that's the same Donna Troy who helped wonder woman rip out the heart of the THEN wonder girl as of The Blackest Night. 

I seriously "just" got back into comics because of The Blackest Night, and even then...the arc was pretty much over. I am dead serious about this, I got back into comics (after my falling out during the dark age) with only 1 month's issues of The Blackest Night left in the story arc.......so yeah, lots of catching up to do on just that alone. And I still haven't read everything, maybe a good 80%. Even then, I have since been trying to keep up with Brightest Day Green Lantern and The Flash comics, as well as catching up on lots of the DC universe titles. 

I can't even begin to tell you, just how un-nerdy it makes me sound when I have to admit that I didn't know there was a Black Adam until only a few months back...even having read that power of shazam blackest night tie-in, again there wasn't a connection made at the time.

Now imagine what it's like to be a comic nerd with ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, OCD and other such goodies who quite literally got back into comics pretty much around a year ago, and has spent a majority of the time researching and I'm no kidding about this....trying to learn everything about everything I could about 98% of every DC character and title I have grown fond of..............only to find that DC is taking the Robin Williams Etch-a-sketch memory eraser. 

So...yeah, I am livid about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How would you feel if everything you've learned and come to accept or come to loathe....now no longer matters?!  I mean come on DC, throw me a frickin bone here. I was pretty much sittin pretty, eagerly awaiting cranking out some really awesome (new *cough cough* vids for the reboot of my review show, and yeah...a lot of them were going to showcase me using DC stuff to solve problems such as being a GL. If Linakra can be a power ranger like time lord or Angry Joe being what seems like a Superman GI Joe (...which would make for an awesome comic by the way.), then I can be a GL wannabe.  oh yeah, cue the spoiler alert siren...oh drat...too late for that.

But at this rate, I am not too sure that GL stuff is even going to happen anymore. So....f***! It's times like this when I regret knowing sooo much about something I like extremely alot, cause I get really miffed when people like to destroy something I've rather come to enjoy. God help me if they ruin The Flash and Legion of Super-Heroes, my other fave comic series other than the GL comics. Knew something was really wrong when they couldn't even keep the GL timeline since the retcon of parallax straight. Dragon of the green lantern message board can attest to just how I just keep going in circles about it, sure he did come up with some reasonable explanations for the discrepancies, but until I see or hear from DC...I'll keep on believing what I do and harping on seemingly minor issues to the overall story. 

The prospect of having to RE-relearn the history changes and the NEW current continuities is just evil.......  And what's worse is, I finally get to place when I can start collecting comics such as Trade paperbacks or hardcovers and the like, to really show off my nerd swag...only to find out, they're doing only digital stuff from now on. Personally I'd like to have my comics in paper form in case the power goes out and/or a giant EM burst knocks out the electrical devices around the globe, as a steampunk I'm covered in how to make steam tech....hey, it could happen and you'll never know when steam powered tech might just be the key to "rebooting" the modern world.

All you DC fans, now would be a good time to go all red lantern corps on their sorry butts.

Comic Inque: The Legion of Super-Heroes

  It all began as it often does, with an animated series based on a comic book or comic books. In the Superman TAS (that means The Animated Series), I caught a glimpse of a comic book series I would eventually come to love an awful lot. In fact, I'd rank it as a close second to my love for the Green Lantern comics. Which is also ironic, because Superman TAS also sparked my interest in Green Lantern stuff in general, so what episode out of all the DC animated shows out there could have sparked this? 

  That would be episode 3 of season 3, the title of this episode is called "New Kids in Town". For those of you who don't know or don't remember this episode, it featured members/characters of  "The Legion of Super-Heroes". Now granted I honestly have read all or even a sizable sum of the Legion's comic books, but I still can't help but say I am still a fan. 

  Also I can't say that I know all of their stories and whatnot, so I am unable to know if anything is being ruined through retcons and the like. What I've seen and read so far has not deterred my from liking the legion, however...I do have a couple of nitpicky things about it, and as a reviewer even I know that this series can't feign innocence. 

  My main gripe about this genre of the DC's comics is that for legion of heroes that spans worlds through out space...most its notable members and enemies...are too human looking. Especially since the legion of super-heroes is trying to abolish xenophobia in honor of Superman's acceptance on earth. I will admit this may not seem like a huge issue like the odd discontinuity story or two you get in GL comics since the beginning of blackest night...but it's still an issue that is worth noting in my book. 

  Another I have a complaint about is the legion's code on murder for the sake of justice, what I mean about that is that whole "do not kill" philosophy that superman is the champion of. Seeing as how he is the inspiration for their founding in the first place, shouldn't they adhere to it? Several times in the comic books and even in that one episode of Smallville, one or more legion members...namely Garth aka Lightning Lad has either spouted talk that alludes to or has done actions that suggest that the legion walks a fine line between the difference for Hero and Anti-Hero. 

  Now granted not everyone knows what that means, so as an example: Batman = Hero, Punisher = Anti-Hero. Anyone who knows these two characters enough, knows the difference between a character being a Hero and Anti-Hero. A hero is a role model we'd want to aspire to, someone whom does not kill people for the sake of justice. And anti-hero is someone whom is willing to kill for the sake of justice, regardless if that is their first or last choice.

  Despite what people think, considering killing for the sake of justice does not make one an anti-hero, just actually doing it does. However, I'd have to say that leaving a villain in a situation that a hero knows will lead to their death lands them on both sides of the fence. True, the hero may not have killed the villain, the fact of the matter is that hero still let someone knowing die by refusing to save said villain. 

  The Legion cannot seem to make up it's mind on what it exactly wants to do regarding the issue of Hero vs Anti-Hero. Take superboy-prime for example back during final crisis, the general idea I got was the Legion wanted to kill him, or was greatly trying to cause his demise in some fashion. A number of times, the Legion went to extreme lengths to put a stop to prime and the legion of super-villains. I am still confused as to whether or not this "black witch" character actually killed members of the legion of super-villains or not. 

  Although I'd like to think she only took them out of the equation with extreme force, I still can't shake the feeling based on the wording in the panels...that she out right ended their lives.

  Now that we got that out of they way, do I still like the legion's stuff? yes. As far as I know, the Green Lantern comics have way loads more stuff to question or complain about, yet I am still accepting of them none the less. I still have to recommend the The Legion of Super-Heroes comics, given what limited stuff I actually know about the legion's history and what limited about of their books I've read....I'd say I give this about a 8/10   

  I don't care what anyone says about it, if you can't find even one thing wrong with a comic book series or character you like...then you honestly aren't a true comic book fan at all. In general, I think many people would agree with me on this. Take me for example, I love the Green Lantern comics but even I know there are tons of things I find that are wrong with it. I like Geoff Johns' work, even though he retcons something he himself put forth a couple years back...

  Although we may not like to admit it, some comic book series and/or characters may not have been too great in the beginning or as of late.

Critic Critque: Angry Joe

   It's been a while since I did a review, so it's high time I pick something really cool as my first new review in awhile...so I chose Angry Joe. To be honest, I have not watched all of his videos. But from what I have seen his reviews are pretty awesome, and despite what this one fat@$$ jerk (whom shall remain nameless, mostly cause I honestly can't be bothered to remember his name) may think about me...Angry Joe is one of the good reviewers out there. 

  My friend has watched a lot of his stuff, and said he was funny. So I watched a few of his vids, some of which sparked interest in certain games such as STO (star trek online) and DCUO (DC universe online). Both of which I did end up getting for other reasons, but his vids on them certainly did influence the choice to buy them. I would recommend you get STO if you're a star trek fan and DCUO if you are a DC fan respectively, and the Vault in DCUO can drop all sorts of fun stuff like a Green Lantern Hoodie or a giant beach ball thing with superman's symbol on it. 

And most recently, his vid for Mortal Kombat has also rekindled that MK spirit from my younger days. 

    As my friend Mr.Dragon01 on the green lantern message board will confirm, I do tend to side with MK characters than Street Fighter characters. I honestly did play MK2 a lot more than SF2, but that doesn't mean I hate SF2. I just had more access to the MK games in the early days than the SF games. And what I saw in Angry Joe's Top 5 reasons MK will kick@$$ merely rekindled that nostalgia I have for the earlier MK games. 

 So I do recommend you at least check out that vid if you're an MK fan or even if you aren't. Angry Joe's reviews cover tons of games and the like and the vids are well put together in my opinion. Like I said about the Cinema Snob, if you don't like the work...don't watch it. If you don't like the comments about a game you like...shut up or make a review of your own putting that game on a pedestal. 

Just don't go to the reviewer's personal FB page and trash talk said reviewer...that is just plain bad manners and I will not stand for it.

Comic Inque: Mike Mahle

  You'd be surprised at the excellent quality pictures you find just surfing the web, or by joining certain groups or sites. In this case, it's deviantart.com. Today i found an artist whom I'm surprised I've not heard of before, considering the level of quality he's put into his pics. Mike Mahle, like many other people on DA I've come across I found merely by accident or by being a part of a DA group. 

His poster for Oa is some of the best quality I've found, and his other works are just as good. Instantly deserving review by yours truly to help get the word out there about his work, in fact his Oa poster is so good that I've requested for me to use it in certain videos in regard to this blog. 

Mike isn't the only artist of such skill that deserves a look see, so in the future I'll be posting other such reviews about artists or their work. A link to his work will be posted at the bottom

Comic Inque: Mr. Sinister

After watching the 90s Xmen cartoon and reading many comics, some fans including myself wondered one thing among others: "Is Mr. Sinister a mutant?"

Yes and no, but there are very good reasons why. Although yes he is a mutated human, no he is not a mutant by the usual definition for the marvel universe. The main reason being that Mr. Sinister used genetic science to mutate himself, and thus his mutations are not natural occurring. It is the natural occurring mutants that we consider to be true mutants for the marvel universe, which is odd since non-natural mutation would still place a person in that mutant category.
Mr Sinister is what some people are calling a Mutate, now you may be asking what exactly that is. Well, a Mutate is what I said above. A person or being whom has a mutation that isn't natural, often time accidentally mutated from one source or due to any number of reasons. The Hulk, Mr Sinister, the Fantastic Four, Spider Man, the Lizard are just some of the many marvel characters which technically fall under this Mutate category.

Born as a human named Nathaniel Essex, through and by various means and differing backstories and the like, became Mr. Sinster from genetic experiments he conducted. All of his powers (or mutations depending on your preference), came as a ultimate result of his experimentation. Most recently I found that he gained his Shapeshifting abilities due to Gambit (fave of mine) and another mutant known as Courier (whom has become a recent fave).  It seems that Mr. Sinister was posing as a female doctor in the late Victorian age, and for whatever reason Gambit is sent back in time with Courier.

Gambit has Courier use his shapeshifting mutation to pose as a woman, and visit the office where Mr. Sinister happens to be working at. Only to find that he knows that the currently female Courier is a mutant, and injects him with something that breaks down his cellular structure rendering him unable to have a physical form. Gambit manages to plead for Couriers life, Mr. Sinister states that he can return him to a non-liquid state if that one of his cells is turned over to Mr Sinister.  And from that cell he manages to incorporate it into himself, thus giving him shapeshifting powers.

But in the end is Mr Sinister a mutant? Like I said, yes and no. Yes he is a mutated human, but no his mutations are not natural by nature.

Donations

One thing some people have asked me to review quite a bit, is Final Fantasy 7 (aka FFVII or FF7). Despite the fact I don't really like any final fantasy games after the first one on the NES, I honestly won't be able to do a review of FF7 because of the simple fact....I do not have a copy. 

This got me thinking, I won't be able to review alot of things for that same fact. So if you have stuff you'd like to donate, then you can always email me about such things. Money donations are always welcomed as well, and any money you donate would go to pay for goods and services that regard the site. 

Any movies, comics and video games donated to Mad Mab's Multiverse Gallery will also get a review. But depending on time constraints, I may not get to reviewing something you donated right away.

The reboot, update 01

The progress of the reboot so far:

• Changed the layout and template of the blog
• Added a paypal donation button
• Added a multiverse background
• Created a heroes and rogues gallery for the new characters
• Working on a costume designs for the new characters

• Working on editing a new closing sequence

And there is still much much more to do before January when the reboot has officially done started, all of the minor changes I'm doing are part of the remodeling and redesigning the blog and online show.

Mad Mab's Multiverse Gallery, the reboot.

That's right internet goers, Mad Mab is in the process of starting his show (that's the video reviews) aspect of his reviewer blog. All sorts of reviews are in the works, and I'm busy typing them up. The reboot debut episode will take place in Jan 2011, and I should get around to releasing a review video or just a video in general at least once every or once every two weeks.

Critic Critque: Deadliest Character - Daleks vs Borg

Ptting the Daleks against the Borg doesn't mesh correctly, as the Dalkes are genetically engineered and the borg are a viral like cybernetic race. By all accounts, the Cybermen would have made a proper opponent for the Borg. They make A great counter point to the borg, because borg still use alot of biological components....were as the Cybermen use very little.

MMO imo: Worgen

I'd have to say because of Asperger's Syndrome, my favorite race to play on World of Warcraft tends to bounce around. For a majority of my time, I played blood elves from bc to sometime into wrath. It was undead that truly got me into wow in the first place. And for a time I was doing a lot of undead characters in wrath, so my fave race to play might continue to shift even after cataclysm.

In the next expansion, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will introduce probably my most favorite race over any other in the game to date...the Worgen. I'd have to say that it was the blood moon isle in Wrath of the Lich King expansion, cause there was a easy way to become worgen for a short period of time on that island. That sparked my interest, and when blizzard announced that worgen were finally going to be a playable race I was overjoyed.

I happen to plan to fully level a worgen of ever class, that's 8 classes! I think worgen are worth it, they have some potential for steampunk fans to further some of the genre's elements already in the game. But it's more than that too, I happen to be a big time fan of werewolves so having a lycanthropic character race to play is just awesome. I happen to have quite a few different cultures in my blood, each has it's own stories and myths on the subject of werewolf creatures.

I'm sure that somewhere down the line I'll have a new favorite race, but Worgen will hold a special meaning to me no matter what. I know people like to knock rp and lore, but I like it. And I happen to be working on really detailed backgrounds on all my worgen characters in the next expansion, as well as some already on going story ideas that will tie-in with the worgen fan fic/rp stuff.

I don't know about you, but I cannot wait for cataclysm so I can play them.

MMO imo: Worgen VS Goblin

Like many people out there I have looked over the new Alliance race Worgen, and the new Horde race goblins. And like sooo many people, I instantly jumped to all the wrong conclusions about the two new races in regard to blizzard. 

It started with the Blizzard removing the worgen district in SW, although I agree it would have been cool...but other than King Genn Greymane's presence next to the chin, I can't really find much to support it. And in the end, didn't blizzard say something along the lines of it would have been more work then needed. Especially seeing as how much of the old world they're basically taking an etch-a-sketch shake method to? They're trying to redesign two whole continents from the ground up, both of which (minus the BC additions and WOTLK additions) have been around since the early days of WoW itself. Although the removal is upsetting, it seemed to be much less of a QQfest as say the no go on a moose mount. 

As for the starting zones, the Worgen starting Zone is vastly superior to the goblins...which is fine for some reasons and not fine in others. The worgen do have a tone of lore to catch up on though, even though some people gripe and moan when lore is brought up...without lore, mind explaining how your playing a game that is basically orcs and their allies vs humans and their allies?

Now concerning the worgen lore, they gilnean worgen players don't even get the whole story...the horde does. Seems kind of unfair to just lob off another major part of a race's story and hand it over for the enemy to fill in the last part. Not only that, but the enemy isn't getting the first half of the story either. So it'd be more like tearing a book in half, giving the first half to a fan of the book or book series and the last half of the book to a person whom hates the book or book series.

I'd have to say that I was livid about how little the worgen were getting outside their start area, and how much the goblins were getting once they got to the azshara part of the game. It wasn't until someone brought to my attention that the reason for this...is because the worgen/gilnean have just now entered the world stage. So it'd be understandable why they have such little presence in the world, but there is the fact that right after the worgen get out of their starting zone they go right to Darkshore and have little to no presence there.  

Now forgive me if I am wrong in this next part, but from what I know there are Night Elf NPCs in Dark Shore and no worgen NPCs. And for the most part, from what I've seen...there is a large amount of people complaining that worgen are basically gone from the rest of the events happening currently in darkshore and the rest of the world. Sure they may have just got there, but the surviving citizens of Gilneas just drop off the face of Azeroth. The howling oak and surwich seem too small to support too many people, so unless the population of Gilneans is worse than that of the bilgewater goblins...shouldn't there be worgen npcs in Darkshore?

Alot of people seem to bring up the lack of npcs for the worgen there is because the worgen owe the night elves. But, the lore says otherwise. From lore and quests inside gileneas, it seems that what befell them was entirely the Night Elves fault, minus the forsaken invasion.  I'm sure alot more people would stop complaining about the worgen's lack of npcs outside of the start zone if blizzard would give them quest npcs at least in darkshore. Now it may not happen for quite some time, could be a year or more after the cataclysm that brought them back into the alliance that more worgen quest npcs might happen, it may conflict with the lore a tad...but not by much. 

To be honest, from what I've seen...the (bilgewater) goblins actually got the shaft more so than the worgens of glineas. They have little storyline that is mostly comical or gimmicky by nature, until around the quest stuff for Azshara. This is when the story really starts to show more of their role as a member of the horde and stuff starts to pick up for them in terms of real lore. Goblins may have an already established world influence and prescience, but that wasn't the bilgewater goblins. Bilgewater cartel goblins haven't been heard of off the island of Kezan, if it wasn't for the Pompeii style death and destruction...the bilgewater cartel might have been content to stay there. 

In the end, World of Warcraft Cataclysm is a whole new start to the game, not just tacking on another expansion. It literally is a brand new look at the original game, with new quests...races...and revamping of old zones. Blizzard did the best they could back then, and after 2 expansion they've had time to flesh out some problems they've been having since the original game. All in all, both Gilnean Worgen and the Bilgewater Goblins have their strengths and their weaknesses. It really all boils down to likes and dislikes, and matters of opinions vs matters of actual facts. 

I favor the worgen, but I can't say the goblins are too bad. The worgen have potential to further some steampunk elements of wow, whereas the goblins have new territory to bring dieselpunk elements to equal already established steam tech in the game. The worgens have some what of a culture that has rich political diverseness and history where the goblins appear as rampant industrial age types, both of which are groups that have been thrust into wars and conflicts they tried to stay out of.

For the Alliance, I like the Worgen and Dwarves, in regard to the horde it's undead and goblins. However, I can find fault in any race of the horde or the alliance, so can anyone. The important thing is to either further the overall story and dabble in races from both factions, or quit qqing so you help your side win an all out war for total supremacy, in what appears to be the never ending age of conflict.

Ink Critque: Green Lantern movie

Watched the Green Lantern trailer, it sucked.

1) wrong hair color for Carol Ferris, she has black hair
2) hector hammond has never had long hair, and wrong hair color for him too
3) perhaps the biggest screw up in all of super hero tv or movie history...the lantern power battery for the movie got the shottiest shabby treatment , with the reb brown Captain America and that other Hulk movie's entire plot in a tie for second place 

4) Abin Sur looks alot like his Black Lantern corpse in The Blackest Night
5) Despite how great an actor Ryan Reynolds, looks too young to be Hal Jordan.
6) Hal Jordan and Abin Sur did not meet near any beaches or coastal areas

7) Hector Hammond's head is not big as it physically suppose to be when his larger head is shown.

8) Abin Sur's power ring looks like that of a green lantern honor guard

4-8 are a bit of a stretch, but other than the so-so problems I mentioned...there really isn't anything too wrong with them. 

I plan not to see this movie, but I'm almost tempted to see how much more simple details to the Green Lantern genre they royal screw over. I'm mean it's not like they have comics to look at for what things should look like, or cartoons...or toys.......or plastic rings you can find on amazon.com or ebay for about 5 bucks a pop.
