I got done watching the next portion of Linkara's "History of the Power Rangers", this one dealt with "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy". During the video, Linkara brought up a rather interesting point and idea behind sparks and the power rangers. For those out there whom used follow the series, when the rangers where struck sometimes, sparks would shoot out from where they were struck. Often times this would be followed suit by weapons and zords as well, I for one didn't even think twice about how or why.
So going on the idea the Linkara mentioned, I was able to fathom two distinct possible answers as to why. But before I get to that, I'll need to set the stage. First is the Morphing Grid, not many people even back then knew what it was or how it worked. In fact in some cases with power rangers over the past few years you still wonder, since in the original series Zordon stated he maintained it. Which only raised tons of question for those who found out that Zordon died at the end of the Space season, but there seems to be new a power ranger series every 20secs...
Think of the Morphing Grid like a power grid that carries electrical energy, much like you're local power company has, only this one seems to span the universe. Every time a ranger user a morpher of any kind, they are really accessing the energy carried by the Morphing Grid itself. That would make the morphers in their various forms, the power transformers. These transformers would then tap into the power of the grid, thus giving the rangers the power to morph into their ranger forms and have access to the enhancing effects that the suits have on their bodies.
When ever a ranger is struck, sparks shoot out from where they were struck. And often times a ranger will be struck so much or so hard, that he or she will demorph. This has to do with the energy the morphers draw from the grid in someway. Now here is where I get to the possibilities for this, hard light and stored atoms.
It is assumed that all the power that the rangers have when in their ranger forms and the energy allowing to have the suits are maintained by a combination of the morphing grid and the morphers. Working in concert, the allow a person to tap into the power of the rangers without it overloading or overwhelming the user. If the energy that keeps them power rangers and gives them their powers as rangers is one an the same, than Hard Light constructs would be the more plausible.
Hard Light constructs would basically have false substance, that's where the energy creating a hologram (for example) is so great, that it gives the false impression that it's made up of solid matter. This would most likely due to the electromagnetic barrier, the reason matter can pass through other matter is the electrons the orbit atoms. The electromagnetic force in physics says this is what keeps gravity from pulling us to the core of the earth. Electrons being of the same polarity, repel other electrons.
Much like the Doctor on Star Trek Voyager, the hard light would also give his generated clothes the same false substance as well as his combadge, thus giving them the ability to feel and act as if they were made of actual matter.
So being made of energy, if the suits had been struck hard enough, it could disrupt the morphing grid causing a surge in power, thus the sparks. If the morphing grid's energy is the same as the energy that makes up the hard light that makes up the suits, then a drain on the energy powering the suits might cause the morpher to draw on more power from the grid. Or it could be to strain on maintaining the hard light suits from stronger attacks, might draw more power from the grid to compensate for it and also cause a surge in power, causing the sparks.
Now if it's the stored atoms theory, then the morphing grid takes on a bit of a different idea behind it. That approach would make the power behind the morphing process and the reason for the suits existence in the first place, two completely different things. The creation and substance of the suits would be made up of atoms stored by the morphing grid. This would make the individual morphers computers that have a specific atom structure programmed into them.
The energy behind the maintaining of the atoms in the specific order they are, might be difficult to maintain when struck. Which might also account for power surges if the attack is strong enough, the morphing grid would send more power to the morpher to maintain the atoms of the suits in the order they are suppose to be.
In either case, any sizable disruption to the suits' energy via the morphing grid would and could cause power surges. I tried my best to explain the nature of the sparks and the power rangers from a scientific standpoint.
